The application of the approaches to the construction of cartographic animations mentioned in the article “Animated maps” in the Handbook of Language Mapping and their spatial relevance is demonstrated for the area of linguistic research in the visualisation of the spread of a language/language family. In the following the portrayal of the spread of Austronesian languages, will be used as an example for an animated map presentation. For this website, we added some working maps and an extract of the raw database.
